Optimum sleep is essential to a healthy life style. There have been many researches on the amount of sleep a person should take daily, and although there are people do vouch for lesser hours, a highly agreeable interval is that of eight hours per day.

During stressful situations, it is common for any person to compromise on sleep and food. While food is an entirely different matter and off course very important, in this article, we will concentrate on things you can do to ensure an eight hour sleep on daily basis.

Never Work While In Bed

Working on bed transmits a subliminal message to the brain that bed is not a place for only resting. Never commit the folly of making your bed your working stations. The artificial light coming out of your gadgets like laptop, tablets and mobiles can mess up your natural sleeping patterns, making your prone to more disturbances during the resting time.

Make a Sleeping Routine

Many people have a habit of waking up late to get the work done, but what they don’t realize is that by doing so they jeopardize their entire next day. Also, late at night, the influence of sleep makes a significant impact in your thinking and focussing ability, and you may not be able to get the required results. More importantly, such an activity can break your sleeping routine. They key here is to ensure that you get to bed at a fixed time, no matter what the situation is. Sure, there may be many deadlines in your personal and professional life, but they should not eat up your sleeping hours.

Space Out an Interval between Working and Sleeping

Never make a mistake of going to bed immediately after your have completed a big assignment. This is because the residual effect of that work will still be fresh in your mind and that can hamper your sleep. Try to wind down before you actually go to sleep. This can be done by taking a shower, spending some time with your loved ones (family or friends) or merely by sipping a cup of herbal tea (do not go for drinks with caffeine in them). If you are still having some difficulty in sleeping, try to write your problems on a journal or a piece of paper.

Say Yes to Power Naps

If you get a window, never shy away from taking 15-20 minute naps. They energize you.
