Diabetes occurs when a body does not produce insulin or use it properly. A hormone produced by the pancreas, insulin allows glucose to enter the body from food. From there, glucose is turned into energy which is needed by tissues and muscles to function effectively. This is the reason why insulin is essential for the human body.

Diabetes is a chronic condition, and once it is diagnosed, it needs to be controlled if you wish to perform your day to day affairs appropriately. If you fail to control diabetes, it can lead to extreme blood pressure, heart diseases or nerve damage. There are many methods to control diabetes, with diet being one of the most effective ways to maintain a healthy sugar level in your body.

Things Required:

– A diet plan approved by your physician

Make a proper diet plan:

If you are a diabetic, you must make a proper diet plan, which needs to be vigorously implemented if you want to control diabetes. Keep in mind that a diabetic must change his or her overall lifestyle to be able to fight the disease and you may have to give up on some of your favourite foods.

Less fat:

In order to control diabetes, you need to reduce the fat in your daily diet. Try to avoid dairy products and meat. However, you may continue to have chicken and fish.

Avoid sugar:

Any food that contains a high level of sugar must be avoided. Desserts and cakes have to be cut out of your diet.

Say no to sugary drinks:

You have to cut down on fizzy drinks as they contain a high level of sugar. It is highly recommended that you prefer regular water instead of sugary drinks. Have water before a meal or a slight amount during a meal but it must be avoided right after eating.

Avoid junk food:

You must eliminate junk carbohydrates from your daily diet as they have the potential to spike up your blood sugar level.

Take carbohydrates through fruits and vegetables only:

You must include fresh vegetables and fruits in your daily diet, which are also a great source of carbohydrates. Fruits and vegetables are slow digesting carbs and do not increase the blood sugar level.

Workout:

Even if you take care of your diet, you will not be able to control the condition completely unless and until you work out regularly. If you do not feel like going to the gym, you can just walk for about 30 minutes every day.

Tips & Warnings:

– Check your sugar level regularly, and monitor it carefully.
