Small burns are not life threatening, but they can cause excruciating pain which needs to be mellowed down at the earliest. Although it is recommended that an anti burn lotion should be kept at home at all times, but if you don’t have one, there are some home remedies which you can try immediately.

Honey

Regardless of whether it is healing the skin, moisturizing it, providing glow to it or treating the wounds, honey is your best ingredient. It has been an age old remedy for treating burns as well. Honey draws out the fluid from the skin tissues thus providing soothing sensation. You can apply honey directly on the burnt part of use sterile gauze and bandage tape to cover it. The application should be done three to four times per day.

Oatmeal

As the burns heal, the skin around them becomes dry and itchy which can cause a lot of discomfort. The best way to cure that is by using oatmeal. In case the burn is small, just soak some uncooked oatmeal in water for about 10-15 minutes and apply it on the burn. Let it be for half an hour and repeat this procedure twice a day. If there are multiple small burns the body, fill the tub with water and add a cup full of uncooked oatmeal in it. Let the oatmeal soak for about 15 minutes and then spend another fifteen minutes in the bath. Let your body air dry after the bath so that the oatmeal layer is there on your body. You can wash this layer off after 30 minutes.

Tea Bags

The tannic acid found in black tea provides relief. Dip two or three tea bags in a cup of cold water and apply the extract on the burnt area.

Salt

Salt mixed with cold water should be used to treat mouth burns only.

Ice Cubes

Whenever you burn your tongue, use ice cubes to lessen the burning effect and bring back the tasting sensation.

Potato

Simply peel a potato and apply the extract on the surface on the burn. It will provide a cooling sensation and relief.

Milk

While hot milk can cause severe burn, ice cold milk can help provide relief against it. Let the milk soak the burnt area for as long as you can and repeat the procedure whenever you feel uneasy.

Cold Water

You can use cold compress to sooth the burnt area.
